I'd need to read it again to write a true review. Mieville plays with some very big concepts here, the primary one being language. The alien species in Embassytown is only capable of speaking in absolute truth. They can't lie. To use wordplay like a simile, they actually have to have someone become that simile so they can say it. Our main character is one of these similes. I don't want to delve any further into this because a) it would get into spoiler territory, and b) I don't fully understand it. Suffice to say, if you want a highly intellectual science fiction novel, this is for you.
