i have a soft spot in my heart for these stories, as i grew up not far from where they were purported to have happened. also, of all of the washington irving that i've read - which i confess is limited to "the sketch book" - i found these stories by far the best. still, he's not really one of my favorite authors - i find his style distracting and frustrating and his stories (except for these) slow and plodding. and lastly, levine's illustrations are at times charming, but by and large are not his best work.
I found Greg Isles books quite by accident. I am so glad I did. This book keeps me guessing from page to page what is going on, is it paranormal or just evil at work. The charectors are well developed in a way that doesn't bore you. Finished this book. I loved it. Kept me wanting more as every page brought something new I hadn't expected.
