This book re-tells in great detail the story of Aron Ralston, who was forced to cut off his own arm to survive after a canyoneering accident near Moab, Utah. It's a very up close view of a man's struggle for life and being forced to come to an enormous decision such as cutting off a limb. I really appreciated the lessons and slightly new point of view that I received from this novel. The first hand account of the events is chilling and quite disturbing at some parts. While reading the book, I got really bored with the long interludes of memories in between the action. I started to skip those chapters and just stick with Aron during his struggles in Blue John Canyon. So I only truly read about half of the book. The description of the amputation and other gory parts had me almost passing out, so I skipped those as well. Struggling through my horror, I managed to get a lot out of this book. Small amounts of strong language (I don't blame him) and very vivid descriptions of gruesome events are in this novel. But I really recommend it. It helped me understand some more about the human drive for life and made me think about what I would do in that situation.

Interesting collection of photos and clues about the life of the mysterious Mr. Snicket from the wonderful "Series of Unfortunate Events." In true Snicket style, it's a bit weird, but there are lots of clues scattered throughout which uncover more of Snicket's back story for true fans of the Series of Unfortunate Events.

I just finished this for my pastoral theology class ... it is a series of vignettes from Wangerin's experience as a young pastor starting off in an urban church.
