It's good. It's too polemical to get the full breadth of Gould's work I think, I would reccommend some of his collections for that. I think his method is why I (sort-of) made it through College.
I really, really loved Angle of Repose and wanted to try this National Book Award winner. Stegner is a good writer, but I did not relate to this one as much. A retired literary agent reminiscences about the time he went back to his mother's birthplace in Denmark with his wife. They share a house with a Danish upper class woman and befriend her. He feels that he is just looking at life and not participating in it but events in Denmark lead to some participation and his feelings. At the end he goes out to look for a lunar rainbow with his wife but does not find it. Through Joe, the author shares his thoughts about being an old man. Karen Blixen (Isac Dinesen) makes an appearance in the novel.
