I really wasn't into this one. Thinking back on it, I have to give it 1 star instead of 2. I just couldn't get into the characters or the ideas behind the series. The heroine was pretty boring and unoriginal, a bit like Anita Blake but without the spark. There was no real love story, and the one steamy scene used this line that I just have no tolerance for after having endured so much LKH--the gorgeous vamp says something to the effect, "How can you gaze at me as though I'm the most beautiful thing you've ever seen and yet refuse me?" Gaaaahhh! I cannot take that line anymore. It wasn't really a romance novel since there was no clear love interest and nothing came of it anyway, and I didn't like a lot of the paranormal stuff. The main character does have some strong powers, but not the sort that appeal to my imagination, and anyway she's such a lousy character I didn't enjoy seeing her use them.
Thanks to this book I no longer fear my farmer's market. I know whether I come home with parsnips, jerusalem artichokes, rutabaga or any other vegetable I have no idea how to use, I'll find a truly delicious way to cook/serve/prepare it.
