This is the book that defined the travel log book for the 2000th in the 1980. If you have ever moved someplace alien that you thought would be great and turned out to be a big learning experience for you this is a humorous, instructive, and entertaining read. It reminds me of when I moved to Maine and it took years to "fit" in with the local flora & fauna. It is organized by season and focuses on food, wine, truffles, poachers, workmen, and the Gauls. A fun examination of when Brits meet the French. Many interesting vinyets.
Okay..I had such high hopes for this book. I mean it was written by the "voice of the beat generation" for Pete's sake. Total disappointment. I didn't like, kept waiting for something to happen. Blechhh! Kerouac - ptooey! the only reason I give it one star is because it is actually a book and I love books but truly...ew.
This is a hilarious, quirky, and touching meditation on friendship, music, and race, told in true Linda Barry style. If you haven't read any Linda Barry, you should. She's really funny, but totally eccentric. You can read this book in one or two train rides--it's an illustrated text. Couldn't be more exacting about the embarassment and cruelty of being a seventh grader.
This is a great book for any nursing mothers. It has solutions for pretty much any problem arranged in alphabetical order by keyword.
