I had difficulty getting the shape of the story at the beginning, wondering where it was going. It hit its stride when the troubled young man shows up in town. I loved the struggle the aging preacher went through to lower his defenses to break through and communicate with the young man.
A nice return to Green Town. This book has a different feel than Dandelion Wine, perhaps because Bradbury was decades older between the release of the two books. Douglas, too, is older and is having trouble navigating between the worlds of children and adults. He finds he is being usurped as the leader of the gang by his younger brother Tom, all the while resisting growing older and learning about the cycles of life.
