The Alchemist was more of a fable than a novel to me. It would be a nice bedtime story or an interesting jaunt through inspirational philosophy. I took issue with Coelho's writing style, though--very little character development and lack of descriptive language. If the author had taken the passionate, comepelling language he used to describe the wind and extended it throught the whole book, I'd be crying masterpiece like the rest of the world is. Just a little dull, that's all.
This book got under my skin more than the first one did. I was even having dreams about it! I walked away feeling a bit unsatisfied with how some things were wrapped up, but I'm hoping this will all be cleared up in the third book.
