This is not a book for people who like happy, neat endings. It is so chock-full of tragedy I almost couldn't stand it. But, sometimes those are the most beautiful and moving books to me and I absolutely loved this one. The book tells the story of Lily, a girl growing up in China and takes you through her life. It's very rich in detail with foot-binding, ceremonies, traditions, marriage customs, etc. The foot-binding part made me really upset, and so grateful that I didn't have to put my daughter through anything similar. So writing this, it sounds like I don't like this book but it was so interesting and just so good. I really liked it.
