Fascinating. I've always loved fairy tales and fantasy.

The Entertainer and the Dybbuk by Sid Fleischman is about Freddie, a man who get’s possessed by a Dybbuk. A Dybbuk is a Jewish spirit who won't go away until it has fulfilled what it needs to fulfill. So anyway, the ventriloquist is horrible. He moves his lips when he does the puppet's voice and everyone can see him do it. Then one day after a show a ghost shows up in his bedroom. The ghost is 12, because he was killed a few weeks before his Bar Mitzvah. When the ghost was alive, Freddie had promised him he would come back for him after the war, because he had been a soldier in the allies. He reveals his name is Avrom Amos, and he needs a favour. For a while he agreed to be the puppet voice in the act to repay him. But soon he starts telling his story during the acts. After making Freddie pretty famous, he asks for the favours. First he wanted a Bar Mitzvah. Since he is a ghost, Freddie must stand in for him. Word gets around Freddie is Jewish, even though he is not. His date he had was ruined by Avrom, who said the girl was really an old Nazi soldier. Freddie is mad but an old friend shows up and they start dating. Avrom says he wants revenge against the guy who killed him. He said the Nazis put poison on his little sister’s lips and made her drink poison. She died screaming. Then they found him and put six bullet holes through him. Freddie went back to America, and on the way tells his girlfriend about Avrom. She is upset and says to get rid of him. He says he will as soon as he helps him. The guy who killed him, it turns out, put a tattoo on his arm and pretended to be a Jew to get pity. He sold rare stamps and had come to America. When they found him he was on trial for murder. A fifteen year old boy was discovered dead with poison on his lips in his backyard. He lies and it seems like he might get away. But Avrom speaks through him and forces him to tell the truth. Freddie realizes Avrom will get his revenge by driving the killer crazy for the rest of his life. The moral of this story is that your ghosts, or Dybbuk, will come back to haunt you. Even though this story is fiction, the poison method was real. Nazis would go and kill children, even babies for fun. They used poison because they thought it a waste to use bullets on "Jewkids". Very well written and really sad. Over one and a half million children were killed, and this book is dedicated to them.
