I read this because it was the favorite book of someone important to me. I can see why he liked it, but it totally wasn't my kind of book. They guy who liked it was very much the type of person who would want to just travel from place to place figuring it out as he went. Meanwhile, I am not like that at all. So, I think a lot of the deeper meaning of this book was lost on me when I read it.
