I love this book! It's about a group of kids in a small town in Oklahoma. Because they were born at midnight they get an extra hour in the day between midnight and 1am where only they are awake and can move around. The problem is that the hour was created by ancient beasts who were running away from the humans who were hunting them. Now they rule this hour and are hunting the midnighters who're invading it (although they don't have any choice about being awake at that time). The kids have to figure out how to save themselves, and they're all a bunch of interesting, complex misfits. I recommend it to any kid! It's especially good if you want a fun dose of archaeology, geography, and lots of math (my favorites)! Now I have to go out and get the second one.
