This is a good book for all ages no matter who you are... If your emotional don't read it... I cried for two days. Lol

Can't say I really read this. I couldn't get past the first couple of pages. Granted, the author worked really hard to write what she did. I just couldn't spend that much time and effort with a book. Maybe I just hit it at a bad time. Anyway...

I have a love/hate relationship with novel. Holden is an asshole who can't see the forest for the trees. Excuse the cliche but that's basically Holden. He's so concerned with his own ideas and his own search for the real that he can't see the positives in life or the people living it. He's so young, bitter, and pessimistic that it can be hard to want to keep reading. The only reason I continued is because occasionally Holden had some moments of clarity that made me believe there was hope for him. I liked that he was surrounded by people who had sense even though Holden was so stuck in his ways he couldn't really accept the advice being given to him. I find that what people hate most about Catcher are the people who worship Catcher. They tend to be as jaded and stubborn as Holden which I don't think was the purpose of the novel.

Pretty good, but not great. Especially after coming off of reading BodyWorld, which was fantastic. It doesn't feel as long as it looks (about the thickness of a phone book), which is good. If you like the Squid and the Whale and Royal Tenenbaums, you might enjoy this.
