Ummmm....WOW! I am seriously upset that I have to wait another year for the next installment of Rachael Morgan. The magic was awesome, the character development was awesome, the relationships were awesome, and I'm still wondering what exactly this all means. Sorry - but I'm crushing on Al. And Pierce. And Trent. And I still miss Kistin. I know - fickle, fickle. There is so much going on here. Rachael is forced to drive cross-country to attend her witch shunning trial. Trent has to come along because of some old Elf tradition, that is not revealed until the end of this book. We see Rachael come to terms with what, exactly, she is. At the beginning of this series, everything in Rachael's world was black and white. She has grown exponentially to see that there are varying shades of gray, and demons aren't necessarily bad beings. She has accepted herself in this book. She is what she is and is proud of herself. On the way to the San Fran, there are obstacles along the way. Trent summons an insane demon, hit men are chasing Trent, the coven is following Rachael, pixies kidnap Jenks, etc. Through all of this, we learn that Trent is trustworthy and is a little smitten with our red-headed witch-demon. Pierce is, in fact, completely in love with Rachael, and will sacrifice anything to help her. Al is also, in my opinion, crushing on Rachael, with a new found respect for her and her abilities. Heck, even Newt is warming up to Rachael. I was glad to see that relationship with Ivy seems to be going back to a more friendship-type nature. Rachael loves Ivy, but not the way Ivy loves her. I just never saw Rachael ending up with her. Rachael has always liked the bad boys. Jenks is learning to deal with the loss of Matalina and is coping better in this book. Jenks is even changing his outlook on life, realizing that fairies are not all bad. Bis is growing up, too, saving Rachael at the moment she needs it most. I'm looking very forward to the next installment in the Hollows series. I want to know what happened to Pierce? How will Al and the other demons react when they find out that Rachael is alive? How are thigns going to play out with Trent? Can't wait until next year and another Hollows book.
