This was an amazing book for me. I had read a couple of travel books before, but this one has me hooked, at least on Bill Bryson travel books! I can't believe how skilled he is at mixing travel commentary, facts about a country, history of a country, and humor. I knew next to nothing about Australia before reading this book--at least now I know important facts, like that the most poisonous creature lives in the waters off of it, and there is a herd of camels descended from some that were brought to help with the building of the railroad. Now THOSE are things you don't find in your run-of-the-mill travel book!
