This book is seductive in the story it promises to tell--I was willing to ignore the weird racial overtones, and read along just to see the hero become an awesome boxer. But the narrative unraveled at the end, and left me with the sour taste of the narrator's stale philosophy... I can imagine Ayn Rand might like this book. I'm not sure though. I'm only basing that on what I know of her from reading Old School by Tobias Wolff.
