The Shadow of the Wind is like a lovely summer evening soiree, held in a lovely garden of an old-world country villa, as remembered years later when the hard edges of the present moment have long worn away and only a delightful warmth and glimmer, like that in a fairy tale, remain. Really, you should read it. You will be smiling for days :)

My father read several of the books in this series to my siblings and me. I particularly remember this title because one would think that cat ate an actual danish, like a pastry, but it turns out to be a Danish chair with a modern design. We liked these books as a family because they had cats in them (which we kids and my mom liked) and mysteries (which my dad liked). They were also not really adult mysteries, so they weren't easy to solve, but they were clean and appropriate for older children.
