I tried to read this book a year ago, but it was impossible. The main character annoyed me so much, I couldn't stand him. This year I said to myself you have to read that book. Although it took me about a month to finish it, I enjoyed some parts. Others are just ridiculous and by the end of the book they still didn't make sense to me. By the way, this time around I loved Alex, he was funny and naive, almost like a child, but in the end he's all grown up. He knows where he stands. I think the part I enjoyed the most was when they were talking about all the horrible things the nazis did to the jews. Not because I think it was right what the nazis did, but because it seemed so powerful to me and so real. It showed an extreme vulnerability from the grandfather. It made him look human, not just some annoying old guy.
