If I could, I would probably have given this book a 4.5. I really loved this book, there were just a few things that I didn't like. There was a side story about Brianna and Violante that didn't really fit. There was almost a whole chapter devoted to it and it was just a distraction in my opinion that didn't match the rest of the book. Second, after Dustfinger becoming a main character in the second book, not much attention was given to his thoughts until the very end. He became one of my very favorites so I would've liked more attention paid to him throughout the book. I thought the whole Meggie/Farid/Doria thing wasn't really explored fully and I found myself thinking, "She really likes these boys but I don't feel like she loves either of them", not with a deep love anyway, more of a crush feeling like most young teenagers have. The book had lots of death and for a juvenile target audience, too much sexual innuendo (Orpheus fondling maids, the whole Brianna/Violante thing, which was weird to begin with). I loved the prologue of this book--really makes you wish for another book in this series. Maybe someday! Funke's characters were terrific--ones to love, ones to hate, and ones to make you laugh. All three books were terrific!
