Atwood's delicate prose and complicated characters take what could have been a common cloak-and-dagger affair story and change it to a remarkable piece of historical fiction. The Blind Assassin jumps backward from a contemporary, gently-decaying Northern town and follows the complicated history of the town's most prominent family, the Chases. From the Great Depression to Bolshevism, science fiction, and a tangled web of familial alliances, Atwood's story follows the great sacrifices and treachery the Chases inflict on one another during more than sixty years of history.

I haven't read very many of Patterson's books (for no real reason, I just haven't done it), but I enjoyed this book and I think I need to read some more like it.
