Although not quite as engrossing as I Know This Much Is True, this was still a very compelling story. It is character driven and the brilliancy of Lamb's writing is that his characters are not always terribly likable. He weaves a fictional story from the true life events of the Columbine tragedy in a way that makes you feel like the characters were really there. If you have any personal ties to Columbine, this book may be tough to read. Otherwise, I recommend it.

I love Rebecca, but Jamaica Inn is my favorite Daphne Du Murier book. Yes, I could use a little more interaction with Mary and Jem. Yes, Jem's character could use a little more fleshing out (especially the dark side). Mary is a little self-righteous and sometimes hard to take; Aunt Patience too cardboard and her attraction to her husband to strange to fathom. But I love the mystery. I remember the first time I read it, I couldn't put it down. I was trying so hard to figure out what was going on before the author revealed it to me. Now, when I read it, I look for the moments that won't leave my brain. Mary locked in her room. The night on the beach. Jem breaking the window. The ending. I love it and I can't even fully explain why!
