It's almost heresy to consider a movie to be better than the book on which it's based, but I found the film to be more enjoyable. In the novel, Mattie is the sole narrator, and so the only perspective we have is hers. Normally, I would be fine with this, but because I saw the movie before reading the book, I was looking for the other characters to be more realized in the text. I'd probably still recommend, but I would warn to hold off on the movie first.
