this series is awesome. this is the first book in it, and there is a lot of set up, obviously, since it is supposed to be the basis for a 7 book series. all of the chapters are told from a different character's point of view, my favorites being bran and tyrion for this book. this is a fantasy series, but it is very much a political animal. there is not a whole lot of "magic" per se. there are horrific scenes of war, though, and it only gets worse in that regard. not for the faint of heart. if you like political intrigue, family psychology, knights in shining armor vs. true knights, sociology, history, battles, romance, and wolves, you will love this book and the entire series. there are also numerous chuckles sprinkled throughout.
