İstanbul-Tuğba Sayın
A beautiful story with great description of the Chinese countryside in the 70s. Glad to have read it prior to watching the movie.

If you liked Kitchen Confidential, you'll also like A Cook's Tour. Bourdain visits some pretty diverse locations while seemlessly changing gears from his biting sarcasm to moments of sincere humility. Seriously, Bourdain is the business.

I have to say that this book had an interesting plot. The idea was completely crazy to me and I was really interested to see what direction the author would take it. I also have to say that I wasn't very captivated with the story. The author did a good job letting you get under the skin (pun intended) of the main character and experience what it must be like to be a "Skinner" at the beginning of the book, but beyond that the story didn't hold my attention and I was really hoping for something with a little more (action? feeling? soul?) . . . I can't put a finger on it, there was just something missing . . . the supporting characters didn't seem to have very much depth to them and I so wanted Lia to experience more. **Spoiler Warning** And the ending was completely blah. I was like, "You've got to be kidding me!!" This isn't a book I would recommend to anyone.

Terrific book about a child abandoned on a ship to Australia in 1913--goes on to develop the story from past and present views--long but fascinating story
