Unutulmayanlar

LOVED this book. Lots of applicable examples to issues in my life. Very well-written, explanatory, easy-to-follow, and full of resources. Would recommend this to everyone. Love the focus on simple solutions and how we tend to get too bogged down in over-analyzing things or not feeling motivated enough to change something.

I have always lived by the tenet - that a really good book is one that makes you feel, whether it be angry, happy or sad. The sign of a truly good book is one that makes you feel the characters' emotions like they were your own and Drink Deep did just that. THIS IS A MUST READ. I will try not give away any spoilers, so bear with me if my review seems somewhat cryptic. After the devastation that I and many other CV fans felt at the end of Hard Bitten, I literally had to fight the instinct to abandon the series as whole. Even reading the first chapter teaser that Chloe gave us left me feeling depressed. However, after reading Drink Deep, I am happy I did not give up on Chloe or Merit. In Drink Deep, we get a glimpse of what Merit's life would be without Ethan. Merit essentially only has the responsibility of being the Sentinel to Cadogan House to keep her going. Merit knew that in her short time with Ethan, she had few mementos of her relationship with him or just her interaction with him. One of said mementos, was Ethan naming her Sentinel of Cadogan House. Now with Cadogan House being placed in receivership by the Greenwich Presidium and under the constant watch of their representative, the snivelly (aka prick) Frank Cabot, Merit knows that her job is now more important than ever. But when it rains, it poors right? Correct, in Merit's case it floods. The Frankfurter (aka sniveling Frank) is determined to question every decision made by Ethan including his appointment of Merit as Sentinel, Cadogan vampire's access to junk food and how much blood they drink. Frankfurter rations the blood in Cadogan House and revokes their right to feed from the vein at the same time. Tensions are wound tight and Cadogan vampires are being pushed to their breaking point but they are still being watched by protestors and reporters camped out at their doorstep. Needless to say they have a lot to deal with. However while all this is going on inside the Cadogan house, outside their doors is utter chaos - the city of Chicago appears to be under attack. No one knows what caused Lake Michigan to turn black and become a magical void or what caused the sky to bleed or a new mountain to rise in the middle of Wrigleyville, but like everything else that goes wrong in Chicago the blame is placed upon the vampires and who better to attack than the house that has just lost its Master. Merit has to find out who is to blame for this magic before Chicago is destroyed or relations between the humans and supernaturals in Chicago reach the point of no return. As a result, Merit finds herself teaming up once again with Jonah, who of course wants to be more than just her partner. I have to say that I was a little frustrated at how everyone other than Catcher was encouraging Merit to get involved with Jonah. It was kind of heartless to think that Merit would so easily get over the death of her lover and move on to someone else, two months after said lover gave his life to save hers. I was happy to see that Merit, regardless of the encouragement from other parties stayed strong - she was not ready for something new and had not gotten over Ethan as yet. (So suck it, Jonah fans :P) Nevertheless, Merit needed a partner now that Ethan was gone and Jonah was the man for the job. As Merit searches for the cause of Chicago's supernatural problems, she meets new supernatural creatures but still hits several dead ends. But the person behind the Lake turning black and all the other signs is someone she has met before, but can she figure out who it is in time to stop the destruction of Chicago?(I guess you'll have to read to find out) A few surprises lay in store as Merit unravels this mystery - some are happy and some are sad, it depends on the reader. I myself had one emotion supersede the other. What about you? Happy or Sad? Let me know what you think DIATRIBE TIME - While reading this book I have to say that a lot of characters pissed me off. The first being, Mallory Carmicheal - aka Merit's best friend. In the past 4 books in the CV series, I have been fighting how much I dislike Mallory. Yes I know, Mallory clearly did not like Ethan and that did not sit well with my Ethan love but that was only part of the reason. I found her selfish at times, like when she pushes Merit to be with Morgan despite the fact that she knew Merit had strong feelings for Ethan. Mallory is always wining about how tough it is to be a super sorcerer (oh boo hoo - cry me a river) and how Merit is never there for her blah blah blah blah blah. Mallory never considers what Merit is going through - with people (aka Celina) trying to kill Merit left right and center and how tough it is to love someone who had to choose between his responsibility to protect the lives of hundreds of vampires or his love for Merit. Even as Merit is grieving the loss of Ethan, Mallory in her conversations with Merit still continues to call the man/vampire who saved her best friend's life, Darth Sullivan(Really, was that necessary? - have some respect for the dead at least) Am I wrong in thinking that Mallory needs to go back to best-friend academy, because she probably skipped a couple classes before she graduated? The second person, I was a little less miffed at was Catcher. When Merit tries to talk to Catcher about Mallory's snarkiness and her attitude with Merit, Catcher tells Merit that "What goes on in this house between us isn't exactly your business, is it?" That was colossally rude in my opinion and cannot be excused by stress. I expected Merit to develop closer relationships with her friends or draw nearer to them now that Ethan is gone, not these irrational attitudes from her supposed friends.
