The first Kenie/Gennaro. If I'd read it first, I'd have liked it, but I'm not sure it would have sparked me to pant for the next ones. All the Lehane elements are there, but it's not quite as confident and polished as later ones like Gone, Baby Gone or . It's interesting reading these books out of order, though, like learning in a long late-night conversation about the pasts of people you've already come to like. Here are the roots of Patrick's and Angie's relationship, the debacle of her marriage to Phil, the reasons for Patrick's hatred of his father, and the cause of the jellyfish scar.

Very educational about the world of kites and Afghanistan. Not the most feel good book but you can't put it down.
